You know what makes a family photo session actually fun? When your kids don’t even realize it’s a photo session.

That’s exactly what happened during this Scottsdale family photo session with a mama and her two boys. We met up at a neighborhood baseball field here in Arizona—and the second their feet hit the grass, they were in it. Yelling out positions, running bases, shouting “I got it!” like it was the bottom of the ninth. It was loud, chaotic, and absolutely perfect.

The secret?

We didn’t plan this storytelling photo session around the idea of perfectly posed family photos. We planned it around what these boys are into right now. And right now? It’s baseball. Big time.

This is what a storytelling photo session is all about. We lean into whatever stage your family is in—whether that’s wild toddler energy, quiet newborn snuggles, or your kids narrating their own baseball game from centerfield. When kids get to do what they love, everything changes. They relax. They laugh. And suddenly, we’re not taking photos—we’re just capturing real life as it’s happening.

Their mom wasn’t stressing over poses or stiff smiles. She was being their biggest cheerleader. Letting them show her their batting stances. Playing catch. Laughing with them. And because of that, the images we got? Pure joy.

The best part? You don’t have to do anything extra to make this magic happen.

Just show up as you are. Let your kids lead a little. Be present. I’ll guide things as needed, but honestly? When we plan a session around what your family already loves doing, it all unfolds naturally. Experts agree that play-based experiences help kids feel more confident and engaged.

So whether it’s baking cookies, playing in the pool, building Legos, or yes—even running bases on a dusty little baseball field—if your kids are obsessed with it, that’s exactly where we’ll start.

And the result? A gallery that feels like your life, not just a highlight reel.
